Continuing your academic career in a new country always raises a lot of questions. The goal of this seminar is to provide an overview of the German education and higher education system as well as to provide you with the most important information on academic careers in Germany.
The seminar is divided into two parts. You are free to join one or both parts of the workshop. In the first part of the course, a general introduction is given to the German education system and intercultural insights into Germany will be shared. In the second part of the course, specific information for an academic career for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers will be given including funding opportunities. This comprehensive information session will support your successful start in Germany.
Dr. Johannes Dingler
Political Scientist. Director of the Welcome Centre at the University of Konstanz. Studied at the University of Konstanz, York University, Canada, and IEP Bordeaux, France; doctorate in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin; many years of experience in the fields of development cooperation, processes of democratization, and coordination of national and international study programmes. Work areas: support in all non-academic affairs for international researchers.
Anja Eisenbeiß
Art historian. Consultant in the Research Support Unit at the University of Konstanz. Studied European History of Art, Classical Archaeology, Philosophy and Romance Studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg. Academic assistant at the Department of Art History Heidelberg, project manager in the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”. Work areas: consultancy and support regarding application and research of funding opportunities.
Dipl.-Psych. Silke Hell
Psychologist and systemic coach; Consultant in the Academic Staff Development Unit, University of Konstanz. Longstanding experience as director of the Career Center at the Universität Hohenheim, career consultant and trainer for doctoral students, specialists and executive staff. Consultant at the “Büro für Berufsstrategie” in Stuttgart. Expert on professional careers and application training at the Beck-Wirtschaftsverlag. Lecturer at various universities, most recently at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, north-western Switzerland FHNW. Work area: career development for doctoral students
Mirjam Müller, M. A.
Historian and slavist; systemic coach, Consultant in the Academic Staff Development Unit at the University of Konstanz. Several years of professional experience in higher education management at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, personal assistant to the vice president of research, managing director of the Humboldt Graduate School. Teaching activities at Klaipeda University, Lithuania. Working experience as team leader for quality assurance in a medium sized business. Certified instructor for Success Teams after Barbara Sher. Author of the career guide “Promotion – Postdoc – Professur”, Campus 2014. Work areas: career development and human resources development for postdoctoral researchers.
