Course Type: Workshop

Target Group: Doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers

This one-day activity-based workshop, led by a theatre professional, aims to help speakers evaluate and reflect on best practices for handling the question and answer session.

Participants will learn how to deal with “worst case scenarios”, and handling aggressive comments and difficult questions while staying polite, confident and succinct. They will practice listening, expanding thinking time and use the discussion to reiterate their key message.

Exercises are used throughout the course to ensure that participants can immediately put skills into practice. Participants will be required to prepare a 3-minute overview of their topic as a basis for the audience discussion.

Counting towards the Certificate "Leadership, Management, Science Communication and Knowledge Transfer" (Module III or IV, 8 AE).

Communications trainer, classically trained actor and dancer; writer; Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, University of Southern California and Cornell University. Over 30 years experience as teacher and teaching artist working with students and groups of all ages. Over 15 years experience as an arts educator and programme developer for community, health, social service and arts organizations. As communications trainer and consultant specialized in Business English and Presentation Training. Currently Presentation Coach with “impulsplus” (Cologne) for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers.
