Target Group: Doctoral researchers

Science communication is key to make scientific knowledge accessible, to start conversations, and to encourage collaboration between academia and society. This process is especially important for doctoral researchers, regarding the visibility and impact of their research as well as enabling social responsibility.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of science communication with a focus on social media, especially Instagram. You will be introduced to practical strategies that help you to formulate key messages and to present your research to a broad audience. You will apply these strategies to your own research topic and learn how to create your own content.

Following the workshop, you will have the opportunity to put your newly acquired skills into practice by taking over the Instagram channel "PhDiary" for a week. On this channel, doctoral researchers from all disciplines of the University of Konstanz share insights into their work and everyday life, while being supported by the PhDiary project team.

Master of Arts in Cultural Studies. Currently doctoral researcher in Memory Studies and Research Support Officer at the University of Konstanz. Initiator of science communication projects, e. g. "PhDiary" and "PhDSciCom". Doctoral researcher's representative at the Equal Opportunities Council and board member of the Doctoral Researcher Council of the University of Konstanz. Key interests: Science Communication, Memory and Film Studies, Gender Equality.  

Katrin Isabel Schmitt

State exam in German and English (teaching degree). Currently doctoral researcher in Literary Studies and Research Support Officer at the University of Konstanz. Teaching experience of literary seminars and innovation workshops. Board member of the Konstanz Resarch School (KRS) and the Doctoral Researcher Council of the University of Konstanz. Key interests: Science Communication (e. g. initiator of "PhDiary"), Innovation Managment, Enviromental Humanities.
