Ready, Set, Teach – Fit for Teaching: Introduction to Teaching and Learning at University Level for International Teaching Staff

Format:
Online-Workshop
Target group: Teaching staff

Please note: this course is tailored to and reserved for non-German speaking international teaching staff at Baden-Wuerttemberg state universities and PHs (universities of education). If in doubt, please contact us at asd-veranstaltungen@uni-konstanz.de.

Anyone who starts teaching university courses will have spent thousands of hours as a student. This experience will shape their actions as a teacher, as we all draw upon our personal experiences and preferences while teaching. However, in order to teach well – to structure courses fairly and efficiently, to support the various types of students we encounter, to prevent and handle difficult situations – we benefit from adding professional skills and knowledge about teaching.

In this course, you will learn the basics of teaching at university, gaining both evidence-based theoretical knowledge and practical tools. You will learn, for instance, how to plan a course and present information, how to engage and motivate students and also how to build good relationships with students and simultaneously protect your own boundaries as an instructor.

This variant of "Fit for Teaching" offered at the University of Konstanz is a blended-learning course, which consists of six live class sessions (all online) as well as self-study phases flexible in time. The class sessions will be highly interactive and offer opportunities to discuss the course contents with your peers and the instructors (dates and topics see below). In the self-study phases you will be guided through reflecting upon the navigation of roles and boundaries and you will learn how to craft a compelling syllabus.

The course is part of module “Teaching and Learning I” of the Baden-Württemberg Certificate for Teaching and Learning at University Level. Both the class sessions and the self-study phases are mandatory for a certificate of attendance.
