Kick-Off Workshop: Starting and Running a Successful Peer Writing Group for Doctoral Researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences

Course type: Workshop
Target group: Doctoral researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences

It can be a challenge for doctoral researchers to put their results into written form. A supportive environment plays a crucial role in successfully navigating this challenge. Joining a peer writing group where participants share their work and exchange constructive feedback is an efficient tool to maintain motivation in the writing process, encourage confidence, foster productivity and enhance text quality.

The kick-off workshop provides participants with a thematic and organizational introduction to starting and running a writing group. By the end of the workshop, they will have a clear understanding of how to establish a productive, collaborative, and self-directed writing group committed to working together over the following months, and they will have scheduled the first session. Participants will receive tried-and-tested procedures and tools (e.g. moderation processes for the individual sessions) and practise these directly in the workshop (e.g. constructive and efficient peer feedback).

As a prerequisite for participation in the kick-off workshop, participants are asked to bring and be willing to share drafts of their research writing (e.g. parts/chapters of their doctoral thesis or drafts of research papers).

Registration via mail to: asd-veranstaltungen@uni-konstanz.de. With your registration you will be put on a list of interested parties. As soon as 4 to 6 doctoral researchers are on the list, the kick-off workshop can take place (we will schedule a date via Doodle, duration of the workshop: approx. 9am–2pm).
