Course Type: Workshop
Target Group: Teaching Staff
Increasing academic mobility is leading to more courses being offered in English worldwide, rather than in local languages. Whilst sound teaching skills are a basic requirement in all contexts, the use of English as a language of teaching, with students from different cultural backgrounds, increases the complexity of the teaching task.
In this workshop we include theoretical input, practical exercises as well as micro teaching and simulations with individual peer and expert feedback.
Teaching Staff may therefore benefit from reflection on the issues involved and practical support in dealing with the challenges effectively. The course deals with the interfaces between language, pedagogy and culture and is not a language course.
Participants are expected to speak English fluently and with relative ease, even if teaching in English is a challenge for them.
